4 steps to embracing the fun of Brisbane in 2016

I don’t know about you, but I felt like I woke up about six months ago to a very different looking Brisbane from the sleepy town I grew up in.

Suddenly there were multiple unique events happening every other day that I actually wanted to go to.

I found myself quickly responding, ‘I’m Going’, to every second event on Facebook with every intention of making it along. However, ‘life’ got in the way and guess who didn’t end up going? That is correct; moi! This really got me thinking about what stopped me.

You think I would know better as an owner of a destination entertainment business, Escape Hunt Brisbane. We rely on people getting out of bed and coming to experience what we have on offer. I am often confounded by these magical humans who not only come along, but drag multiple people as well! What is their secret, or more importantly, what stops me from being as magical myself?

Needless to say, I am determined to participate in Brisbane’s readily available fun in 2016, and that includes putting in place some plans to get myself along to some of these excellent events.

I am determined to do the following four things:

  1. Get rid of the ‘too busy’ mentality

If I am really honest with myself, I spend way too much weekend time with Netflix. In reality there is ample time to get out and enjoy some shenanigans.

  1. ‘Get in the habit’

Although Sister Act is one of my favourite movies, dress ups are not what I mean. The more you do, the more you get in the swing of doing! Make it a habit. Maybe commit to ‘shenanigans time’ each week.

  1. Find some partners in crime

I am going to write a list. Yes, that is correct. A list of ‘go to’ people who are willing and ready for an adventure. No longer will I be able to say, ‘I can’t think of anyone to come with me’ (a poor excuse at the best of times).

  1. Organise

‘That was last weekend? I swear it’s on tomorrow!’ Easy answer – calendar. Fill it; check it; boom.

Let’s see how I go!
